If you want to export hides and skins in Uganda, you must first obtain an export permit from the Uganda Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries. Below is a detailed guide on how to apply for this permit either in person or online.

In-Person Application Procedure

  1. Visit the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries
    • Go to the Department of Animal Health at the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries Head Office in Entebbe.
  2. Collect the Application Form
    • Request an application form for the export permit to be filled out. The application form is provided by the commissioner for animal resources.
  3. Fill Out the Application Form
    • Complete the form with all required information and attach the necessary documents as listed in the “Required Documents” section.
  4. Submit the Application and Pay the Fee
    • Submit the completed form along with the UGX 540,583 application fee receipt as proof of payment.
  5. Verification Process
    • The commissioner for animal resources will verify the information and conduct investigations on the export request.
  6. Approval Notification
    • Once the verification is complete, you will be notified about whether your application is accepted or if corrections need to be made.
  7. Issuance of Export Permit
    • After approval, the commissioner for customs and excise may grant permission for the export of hides and skins. The export permit will then be issued.

  • Application form (completed accurately)
  • Monthly reports to the commissioner of customs and excise
  • Trade statistics on hides and skins
  • Proof of registration with relevant authorities (if applicable)
  • Payment receipt for the application fee
  • Any additional documents as requested by the Ministry of Agriculture

  • Any individual or organization involved in the exportation of hides and skins can apply for this export permit.

  • The application fee for the hide and skin export permit is UGX 540,583.

Processing Time

  • The maximum processing time for the export permit is typically 5 days.

Permit Validity

  • The permit is valid for one year and requires renewal for continued exportation.
