Overview

Maisha Bora Sacco, governed by Kenya’s Constitution, parliamentary acts, and its own by-laws and policies, is a leading deposit-taking Savings and Credit Co-operative Society. With an asset base of KES 5.18 billion, a loan portfolio of KES 3.26 billion, member deposits of KES 3.78 billion, and share capital of KES 301 million, it serves a diverse membership with accessible financial services. Headquartered at Unilever Kenya Ltd on Commercial Street in Nairobi’s Industrial Area, Maisha Bora Sacco empowers its members through innovative savings and credit solutions.

Who Can Join?

Maisha Bora Sacco welcomes members from a wide range of sectors, including:

  • Employees of Unilever and its affiliated companies
  • Staff of private companies and NGOs
  • National and county government employees
  • Kenyans in the diaspora
  • Business owners and entrepreneurs
  • Registered groups and chamas

Membership Requirements

Membership requirements vary depending on whether you are joining as an individual or as a group.

Individual Membership

  • Complete a membership application form, available for download on the Sacco’s website.
  • Submit a copy of your National ID.
  • Provide two colored passport-size photographs.
  • Pay a one-time registration fee of KES 2,000.

Group/Chama Membership

  • Fill out a group membership application form.
  • Provide group minutes with a resolution to open an account with Maisha Bora Sacco.
  • Submit original and copy of National IDs for each signatory.
  • Include one colored passport-size photo for each signatory.
  • Provide a copy of the group’s certificate of registration and constitution.
  • Submit a signed list of all group members with their ID numbers.
  • Include an introduction letter from relevant government ministries, if applicable.
  • Pay an account opening fee of KES 2,000.
  • Commit to a minimum monthly contribution of KES 3,000.

Maisha Bora Sacco offers two convenient ways to join:

Online Application

  1. Visit the Sacco’s website at https://portal.maishaborasacco.com/Online%20forms.aspx and complete the online registration form.
  2. Pay the joining fee (KES 2,000) and minimum share capital (KES 1,000) using Paybill Number 600110, with your ID number as the account number. Payments can also be made via bank deposit or at the Front Office Service Activity (FOSA).

In-Person Application

  1. Download the membership form from https://maishaborasacco.com/download/membership-application-form/ or obtain a hardcopy from the Sacco’s office.
  2. Attach a copy of your National ID, a passport-size photo, and a KRA PIN certificate.
  3. Submit the completed form to the Sacco’s customer care desk or email a scanned copy to [email protected], along with the joining fee (KES 2,000) and minimum share capital (KES 1,000).
