Since its establishment in 1973, Chai Sacco has been dedicated to empowering its members economically, socially, and financially through tailored financial services. Regulated by the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA), it is one of Kenya’s largest deposit-taking Savings and Credit Co-operative Societies, boasting an asset base exceeding KES 4.72 billion. Headquartered at KTDA Plaza on Moi Avenue in Nairobi, Chai Sacco offers a range of products to support members’ financial goals.
Who Can Join?
Chai Sacco welcomes a diverse membership, including:
- Employees of Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) and its subsidiaries
- Public and civil servants
- Companies or corporate institutions willing to process check-off deductions for staff
- Organized groups such as chamas, investment clubs, and welfare associations
- Entrepreneurs and business owners
- Immediate family members of existing Chai Sacco members
Membership Requirements
To become a member, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Submit a copy of a valid Kenyan ID or, for diaspora Kenyans, a passport
- Provide a passport-size photograph
- Complete and sign a membership application form
- Pay a one-time membership fee of KES 1,000
- Purchase the minimum required shares
- Build the minimum share capital within 24 months of joining or before applying for a first loan
How to Join
Prospective members can obtain a membership form from Chai Sacco’s offices or download it from the Sacco’s website. Once completed, submit the form along with the required documents and fees to the nearest branch or designated office.
