Overview of Kimisitu SACCO
Established in March 1985 by a group of staff from the International Centre for Research in Agroforestry (ICRAF), Kimisitu SACCO has grown into one of Kenya’s leading deposit-taking SACCOs. Its primary mission is to encourage a culture of saving among members by providing them with a secure platform to accumulate savings and access affordable credit for productive and personal development purposes.

Today, Kimisitu SACCO boasts an asset base of over Ksh 9.54 billion, reflecting its financial strength and commitment to empowering its diverse membership base.


Who Can Join Kimisitu SACCO?

Kimisitu SACCO is open to a wide range of individuals and organizations, including:

  • Employees of international organizations, embassies, NGOs, and high commissions.
  • Professionals working in reputable institutions across Kenya.
  • Immediate family members of existing members (spouses and children).
  • Individual entrepreneurs and businesspeople.
  • Registered and informal investment groups (chamas).
  • Corporates and officially registered businesses.

Membership Requirements

1. Individual Members

To become an individual member of Kimisitu SACCO, you’ll need to provide the following:

  • A completed online membership application form (available on the SACCO’s official website).
  • A copy of your National ID.
  • A recent passport-sized photograph.
  • Payment of a non-refundable membership fee of Ksh 1,000 (or Ksh 1,022 via M-Pesa).
  • A minimum monthly savings contribution of Ksh 2,000.
  • An initial share capital deposit of Ksh 5,000.

2. Corporate Members

Organizations interested in joining Kimisitu SACCO must submit:

  • A completed corporate membership application form.
  • A certificate of incorporation.
  • Copies of IDs, KRA PIN certificates, and passport photos of all authorized signatories.
  • A company profile outlining the nature of the business.
  • A membership fee of Ksh 2,000 (or Ksh 2,022 via M-Pesa).
  • A monthly contribution of at least Ksh 10,000.
  • An initial share capital of Ksh 10,000.
  • A board resolution authorizing the company to join Kimisitu SACCO.

3. Chama Members (Investment or Welfare Groups)

Kimisitu SACCO welcomes various types of chamas, including self-help groups and investment companies.

a) Registered Groups (e.g. Self-Help, Women, or Youth Groups)
  • Completed group membership application form.
  • Certificate of registration.
  • Copies of IDs and passport-sized photos for all signatories.
  • Group constitution.
  • Letter of introduction from the Ministry of Social Services.
  • Resolution signed by members to join the SACCO.
  • Membership entrance fee: Ksh 2,000 (or Ksh 2,022 via M-Pesa).
  • Monthly contribution: Minimum of Ksh 10,000.
  • Initial share capital: Ksh 10,000.
b) Investment Groups Registered as Companies
  • Completed application form for chama membership.
  • Certificate of incorporation.
  • Directors’ ID copies, passport photos, and KRA PIN certificates.
  • Original Memorandum and Articles of Association.
  • Company’s KRA PIN certificate.
  • Board resolution agreeing to join Kimisitu SACCO.
  • Entrance fee: Ksh 2,000 (or Ksh 2,022 via M-Pesa).
  • Minimum monthly contribution: Ksh 10,000.
  • Initial share capital: Ksh 10,000.
