To upgrade your driving license in Uganda, follow a simple process to extend your current driving class. This guide will outline both offline and online application methods, including required documents, eligibility, fees, and processing time.

Procedure for Class Extension

Offline Process

  1. Training: Begin by attending a licensed driving school for the appropriate class extension training. Once you pass the driver’s and theory tests, you will receive a Driving School Certificate.
  2. Visit Inspector of Vehicles (IOV): Take your Driving Instructor, Certificate of Completion, and payment receipt to the IOV.
  3. Receive Certificate of Competence (CoC): Upon passing the test, IOV will issue a CoC and send it to Face Technologies for further processing.
  4. Complete Application: Visit any of the following locations to pick up the application form:
    • Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) branch offices
    • Face Technologies Offices
    • Banks
    • Download from the URA website
  5. Submit Application: Fill the form, attach the necessary documents (including the medical form), and submit it to Face Technologies. After processing, you will be required to pay the production fee of UGX 80,000.
  6. Biometric Data: Face Technologies will take your biometric details and issue your new driver’s license within 60 minutes in Kampala and within 48 hours in upcountry offices.

Online Process

  1. Register for Test Fee: Go to the URA website, navigate to the e-services section, and complete the payment registration.
  2. Make Payment: Print two copies of the payment slip and pay at a designated bank. Obtain a bank slip and visit the Inspector of Vehicles.
  3. Download Application Form: From the URA homepage, download the appropriate forms, including the TR VII for class extension.
  4. Submit Application: Complete the application and submit it, along with payment and medical form, to Face Technologies.

  • UCDP 1 Medical Form
  • Bank Payment Slip
  • Current Driver’s License
  • Certificate of Competence (CoC)
  • Completed TR VII Form

Eligibility

  • Preceding Class B: Upgrade to CM after 1 year of experience.
  • Preceding Class B: Upgrade to DL after 5 years.
  • Preceding Class CM: Upgrade to CH after 3 years of experience.
  • Preceding Class DL: Upgrade to DM after 3 years.
  • Preceding Class DM: Upgrade to DH after 3 years.

Fees

  • Test Fee: UGX 25,000 (paid to URA)
  • Class Extension Fee: UGX 41,000 (paid to URA)
  • Production Fee: UGX 80,000 (paid to Face Technologies)

Processing Time

  • In Kampala: You’ll receive your license within 60 minutes.
  • Upcountry: It takes up to 48 hours.

Required Information for Application

  • Name, age, and gender of the applicant
  • Current driver’s license class
  • Date of issue of your current driver’s license
  • Type of class extension applied for
