Have you ever missed important calls because your phone was off, out of service range, or in airplane mode? Safaricom offers a helpful feature called the “I Tried Calling You” (ITCY) notification. This missed call alert service ensures you’re always informed about who tried reaching you, even when you were unavailable.

Here’s how to activate and deactivate it in seconds.

What Is the “I Tried Calling You” Alert?

The ITCY alert is a free Safaricom service that sends you an SMS with details of any missed calls that occurred while your phone was:

  • Switched off,
  • In airplane mode,
  • Or out of Safaricom network coverage.

Once you’re back online, you’ll receive a notification with the caller’s number and the time they attempted to reach you.

How to Activate Safaricom Missed Call Notification

To enable the ITCY service on your Safaricom line:

  • Dial:**62*0722199199#

This will forward calls to Safaricom’s voicemail service when you’re unreachable, triggering the missed call alert SMS.

How to Deactivate the Service

If you no longer wish to receive missed call alerts, you can turn off the service by dialing:

  • Dial:##62#

This will cancel any conditional call forwarding related to the missed call alert feature.

Why Use the “I Tried Calling You” Feature?

  • Never miss critical business or personal calls again
  • Great for frequent travelers or people in remote areas with unstable networks
  • Helps maintain professionalism even when you’re temporarily offline
  • No cost to activate or use the service

Additional Tips

  • If you’re using dual SIM phones, make sure the alert is activated on your primary Safaricom line.
  • This service works independently from voicemail  you’ll still get alerts even if the caller doesn’t leave a voice message.
  • Ensure your phone supports call forwarding codes, which are standard across most smartphone devices.
