Overview
Founded on October 5, 1971, under the Commissioner for Co-operative Development, Ardhi Sacco Society began serving employees of the Ministry of Lands and Settlement. Over time, it expanded to include members from all government ministries, private sectors, and beyond due to civil service changes. With an asset base exceeding KES 2.31 billion, Ardhi Sacco stands as one of Kenya’s leading deposit-taking Savings and Credit Co-operative Societies. Its head office is located at Survey of Kenya, Ruaraka, Nairobi.
Who Can Join?
Ardhi Sacco welcomes a diverse membership, including:
- Current and former employees of government ministries and institutions
- Employees of organizations registered in Kenya able to make regular contributions and meet loan repayment obligations
- Approved business entrepreneurs and institutions
- Non-governmental organizations
- Kenyans living abroad
- Universities
- Groups and chamas
The Sacco’s inclusive policy ensures access for anyone meeting its by-laws.
Membership Requirements
To become a member of Ardhi Sacco, applicants must:
- Complete a membership application form, available on the Sacco’s website or at its office
- Pay a one-time membership fee of KES 1,000
- Contribute a minimum of KES 2,500 monthly
- Pay KES 300 monthly for the sinking fund (KES 150 for the fund and KES 150 for institutional ratio deficit)
- Submit two passport-size photographs
- Provide copies of a National ID and KRA PIN certificate
Membership Rights
As an Ardhi Sacco member, you are entitled to:
- Attend and contribute to decision-making at general meetings
- Vote at all general meetings
- Run for leadership roles within the Sacco, subject to by-laws
- Access all Sacco facilities and services
- Review legitimate information, including by-laws, meeting minutes, supervisory reports, annual accounts, and inventories at the Sacco’s registered office
