1. Visit the DVLA Office
The first step in obtaining a driving permit in Ghana is to approach the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).

2. Get the Application Form
Once you reach the DVLA office, request the application form for a driving permit.

3. Fill Out the Application Form
Complete the application form with all the necessary details. Ensure that you have accurate information to avoid delays.

4. Gather Required Documents
Make sure to bring both original documents and photocopies of the following:

  • National Identity Card or Passport
  • Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) certificate
  • Passport-size photos

5. Pay the Necessary Fees

  • Form F: GH₵ 2.50
  • Form F1: GH₵ 12.50

  • Highway Code: GH₵ 5.00
  • Syllabus for Learner Drivers: GH₵ 5.00

6. Eye Test
After submitting your form, you will undergo an eye test. If you pass the eye test, you’ll receive a learner’s license and be issued a learner’s plate (L plate), learners license booklet, and highway code.

7. Enroll in a Driving School
Enroll in a recognized driving school for 48 hours of training. After completing the training, you will be eligible to take the written and in-traffic exams.

8. Written Test
If your learner’s license has expired, you will need to take a written exam. The test covers road signs, traffic regulations, and country-specific driving rules. The written test fee is GH₵ 5.00.

9. Biometric Information
During the written test, biometric information will be captured, costing GH₵ 4.00.

10. Take the In-Traffic Test
After passing the written test, you will take the in-traffic test. This test involves identifying road signs, markings, and demonstrating your knowledge of road safety.

11. Temporary Driver’s License
Once you’ve passed the exams, you will receive a temporary driver’s license. Return to the DVLA office with your cover note to complete the process.

12. Final Driver’s License
Finally, you’ll be issued your official driver’s license once you’ve completed all the steps. You will also receive a P-Plate.
