Step-by-Step Application Process for a Food Handler Certificate:

  1. Visit the FDA or EPA Office:
    To begin the process, applicants must visit the FDA office or EPA office to collect the application form for the Food Handler Certificate.
  2. Complete the Application Form:
    The applicant must accurately fill in all the required details on the application form. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
  3. Gather and Submit Required Documents:
    Ensure you have all the necessary documents before submission. These may include:
    • Photo identity proof of the food business operators
    • Business constitution certificate (e.g., partnership deed, certificate of incorporation, or shop registration)
    • Proof of premises ownership (e.g., rental agreement, utility bills)
    • Food safety management plan
    • List of food products manufactured or processed
    • Bank account details
    • Supporting documents like NOC from Municipality or Health NOC
  4. Pay the Application Fee:
    A processing fee of GHS 3,550 must be paid to the FDA before the certificate will be issued. Ensure the fee is fully paid and submit the receipt with your application.
  5. FDA Verification:
    Once the application is submitted, the FDA will verify the provided documents and review the application. If the documents meet the criteria, the application will be processed.
  6. Notification and Certificate Collection:
    After the verification process, the applicant will receive a notification. They can then go to the FDA office to collect the Food Handler Certificate. The processing time for the certificate is typically 30 days.
