Overview
Aga Khan University’s School of Nursing and Midwifery, located at Sunny Plaza, Wangapala Road, off 4th Parklands Avenue in Nairobi, is renowned as one of Kenya’s top nursing schools. Accredited by the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK), the institution offers a four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) program designed to prepare students for a rewarding career in healthcare. The curriculum emphasizes patient-centered care, teamwork, interprofessional practice, evidence-based approaches, and quality assurance. Graduates are eligible to register as intern nurses, and after passing the NCK licensure exam and completing a one-year internship, they qualify for full licensure as professional nurses.
Admission Requirements
To enroll in the BScN program at Aga Khan University, applicants must meet one of the following academic criteria:
1. Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE)
- Minimum Aggregate: C+ (plus)
- Cluster A Subjects: C+ in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics, and English or Kiswahili
- Cluster B Subjects: C+ in Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, Mathematics, and English or Kiswahili
2. Advanced Level Certificate (A-Level)
- Principal passes of C in Biology and Chemistry
- Subsidiary pass in Mathematics or Physics
3. International Baccalaureate (IB)
- Grade 4 or above in Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics or Physics
Application Process
Applicants are encouraged to apply online via the Aga Khan University website. In cases where online access is unavailable, candidates may request a paper application form by emailing [email protected]. All applications must include:
- Copies of academic qualifications (KCSE, IB, A-Level, Diploma in Medical Sciences, or other relevant certificates)
- School leaving certificate
- National ID, passport, or birth certificate (for applicants under 18)
- Equivalence certificate from the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) for international qualifications
- Passport-size color photograph (white background, taken within the last week, clear front view, labeled with the applicant’s name for hard copy submissions; snapshots or low-quality photos are not accepted)
Application Fee: KES 3,000 (non-refundable)
Additional Requirement: Applicants must complete a written entrance test in English, featuring multiple-choice questions in Mathematics, Biology, and Chemistry.
