In Kenya, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) is the national aviation regulator responsible for licensing cabin crew members, monitoring aviation training institutions, and enforcing flight safety standards.

Below is a comprehensive guide on the requirements, application process, and renewal of the Cabin Crew Member Certificate (CMC) in Kenya.


Minimum Requirements to Act as a Cabin Crew Member

No individual may serve as a cabin crew member unless they meet the following conditions:

  1. Hold a valid Cabin Crew Member Certificate issued by KCAA.
  2. Possess a type rating for the specific aircraft or operate under supervision to obtain one.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of aircraft type and operational responsibilities.
  4. Hold a current Class 2 Medical Certificate issued by an authorized aviation medical examiner.

Eligibility Criteria for Cabin Crew Certification in Kenya

To apply for a Cabin Crew Member Certificate, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Be proficient in English—able to read, write, speak, and understand instructions relevant to the role.
  • Have completed KCAA-approved training, with a letter confirming the program’s approval.
  • Pass both theoretical and practical tests, conducted within six months before the application date.

Application Checklist for Cabin Crew Member Certificate

To apply, ensure you have the following:

  1. Duly completed Cabin Crew Certificate application form, signed by the applicant and Head of Operations, and stamped by the employing airline.
  2. A valid Class 2 Medical Certificate.
  3. Results slip showing you passed both the theoretical and practical exams.
  4. Two recent passport-size photos (2cm x 2.5cm).
  5. Copy of national ID or passport.
  6. Certificate from an Approved Training Organization (ATO) indicating successful course completion.
  7. Copies from the airline’s competency booklet, showing:
    • Current ratings
    • Safety and Emergency Procedures (SEP) training dates
    • First Aid certification and renewal dates
    • Evacuation and firefighting drills
  8. Valid First Aid Certificate
  9. Application fee of Ksh 2,000

Validity: The Cabin Crew Member Certificate is valid for 12 months from the date of issue.


How to Renew a Cabin Crew Member Certificate

To renew your CMC, you must meet the following conditions:

  1. Complete the annual SEP training, endorsed in your competency booklet.
  2. Attach copies of the first four pages of the competency booklet.
  3. Submit a newly filled and signed application form.
  4. Return the original Cabin Crew Certificate for renewal stamping.
  5. Provide a valid Class 2 Medical Certificate.
  6. Pay the renewal fee of Ksh 2,000.
