A motor vehicle alteration in Uganda is the official process of changing registered vehicle details such as color, weight, engine, or body type through the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA). This process ensures that any modification made to a vehicle is updated in the URA records and reflected in the logbook.
All alteration applications are done online via the URA web portal, and applicants must have a new registration book in their name before initiating the process.
Step-by-Step Procedure
Step 1: Access the URA Online Portal
Go to the official URA Web Portal and log in using your Tax Identification Number (TIN) and password.
Navigate to E-Services → Motor Vehicle Registration → Applications. From the extended menu, select New Form under the Form Type section and choose Purpose of Application: Alteration.
Step 2: Enter and Edit Vehicle Details
Enter your vehicle registration number, then check the “Alters Vehicle Details” box.
Select the fields you wish to modify (e.g., color, engine number, or weight).
Click Vehicle Details Page, make the required edits, and proceed to the Attachments Page to upload supporting documents.
Step 3: Register Payment
On the Payment Registration Page, click Register Payment.
The applicable alteration fees will automatically populate based on your selected fields.
Choose your preferred bank and payment method, then submit the application.
After submission, an E-Acknowledgment Receipt will be generated. Print both the payment slip and application form.
Step 4: Make the Payment and Submit Application
Make the payment at your chosen bank, then submit the completed application form, payment slip, and attachments to the URA Licensing Office for approval.
Once submitted, URA will verify your documents and update your records.
You will receive a notification within 2 working days about your application status.
