A Temporary Student Pass in Uganda is issued to international students pursuing short-term academic programs at universities or colleges in Uganda. It allows a student to stay in the country legally for less than six months, often for exchange programs, research, or short professional courses.

All foreign students must obtain a Temporary Student Pass through the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control (DCIC) before entering Uganda. This ensures compliance with immigration regulations and confirms enrollment in a recognized institution.

Step-by-Step Procedure

Step 1: Obtain Admission

Applicants must first secure admission to an approved university or college in Uganda for a short-term study program. The institution must issue an official admission letter confirming acceptance.

Step 2: Access and Complete the Application Form

Visit the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control website or office to obtain the Temporary Student Pass Application Form. Fill in all personal details, including your full name, nationality, passport information, and contact details.

Applicants are required to submit their applications at least one month before arrival in Uganda and no more than two months in advance.

Step 3: Submit the Application

Submit the completed application form along with all required documents to the DCIC office. Once registered, your university or college will provide a personalized reference number for tracking your application.

Applicants applying from outside Uganda should ensure that all forms and documents are correctly filled to avoid delays.

Step 4: Pay the Application Fee

Before submission, pay a non-refundable fee of USD 30 and attach proof of payment to your application. Payments can be made through the official DCIC payment channels as guided by the immigration officers.

Step 5: Await Review and Decision

Once submitted, the DCIC will assess your application for eligibility and authenticity. The processing period is typically 14 days, and decisions are communicated via email.

Successful applicants will receive an In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter, which serves as a temporary authorization to enter Uganda.

Step 6: Entry and Collection of the Student Pass

Present your IPA letter at Uganda’s port of entry to obtain a Student Visit Pass.
After arrival, proceed to the DCIC office to collect your official Temporary Student Pass. You must carry valid identification and a copy of your approval documents.

Note: Students attending programs shorter than 30 days are exempt from this requirement.

Required Documents

Applicants must provide the following documents when applying for a Temporary Student Pass:

  • Certificates of educational achievements and qualifications
  • Accommodation details in Uganda
  • Copy of In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter
  • Proof of funds or sponsor details
