Obtaining a Residential Permit in Gambia is essential for foreigners who wish to live and work in the country. Whether you’re an ECOWAS or Non-ECOWAS national, the process is straightforward and involves submitting the necessary forms, documents, and fees. This guide will walk you through the steps required to successfully apply for a Residential Permit in Gambia.

Procedure to Apply for a Residential Permit

  1. Complete the Application Form
    Begin by completing the official application form (GID-003) for the residential permit. You can obtain the form from the relevant GAMBIS office or their website.
  2. Submit the Application with Required Documents
    Submit your completed application form along with the original and copies of the required supporting documents. The application will also require you to pay the necessary fee based on your nationality and type of permit.
  3. Pay the Application Fee
    • Residential Permit A: D1,100 for ECOWAS and Non-ECOWAS Nationals.
    • Residential & Work Permit B:
      • For ECOWAS Nationals: D1,300
      • For Non-ECOWAS Nationals: D1,800
  4. Wait for Processing
    After submission, your application will be processed. Processing times may vary, so it is essential to check with GAMBIS for any updates regarding your application.

For Residential Permit A:

  • Completed application form GID-003
  • Passport with current entry stamps

For Residential & Work Permit B:

  • Completed application form
  • Passport with current entry stamps
  • GRA payroll tax receipt (for applicants working in a managerial position)

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Residential Permit A is issued to residents and must be renewed annually.
  • Residential & Work Permit B is for both residence and work purposes and must be renewed annually for foreigners engaged in work within the country.
  • Foreigners with a valid permit are allowed to live and work in Gambia for the specified duration as approved.

Fees

  • Residential Permit A: D1,100 for both ECOWAS and Non-ECOWAS nationals.
  • Residential & Work Permit B:
    • ECOWAS Nationals: D1,300
    • Non-ECOWAS Nationals: D1,800

Validity

  • Residential Permit A: Valid for one year and must be renewed annually.
  • Residential & Work Permit B: Also valid for one year and must be renewed annually.
