The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has officially announced the recruitment of 24,000 teacher interns for Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) in 2025. This large-scale internship programme aims to strengthen the rollout of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) while giving aspiring teachers a platform to gain valuable hands-on experience.

About the Teacher Internship Programme

The Teacher Internship Programme is a one-year professional development initiative designed to nurture, equip, and sustain the competencies of registered but unemployed teachers. Selected interns will be placed in Junior Secondary Schools, where they will benefit from mentorship, coaching, and practical classroom exposure under the guidance of experienced educators.

Internship Duration

The internship will run for 12 months (one year).

Monthly Stipend for JSS Interns

Successful applicants posted to Junior Secondary Schools will receive a monthly stipend of KSh 20,000, subject to statutory deductions.

Minimum Requirements for JSS Internship Recruitment 2025

To qualify for the Junior Secondary School Internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a Kenyan citizen.
  • Hold a Diploma in Education or higher qualification with a minimum mean grade of C+ (plus) in KCSE and at least a C+ (plus) in two teaching subjects or equivalent.
  • Be a registered teacher with TSC (Teacher Registration Certificate required).

How to Apply for the JSS Teacher Internship 2025

Applications must be submitted online only through the official TSC recruitment portals:

  • TSC Career Portal – under “Careers”
  • Teachers Online Portal

The deadline for submission is September 9, 2025, at midnight.

Documents Required During Verification

Applicants shortlisted for verification must present the following documents:

  • A valid TSC Registration Certificate or a printout from the TSC online portal.
  • A valid National ID Card or Passport.
  • A copy of the KRA PIN Certificate.
  • Two recent passport-size colour photographs.
  • A valid NCPWD card (if applicable).
  • Original and copies of academic and professional certificates.

Important Notes for Applicants

  • The recruitment exercise is completely free of charge.
  • Manual (hand-delivered) applications will not be accepted.
  • Applicants must be unemployed and should not have exited TSC employment previously on disciplinary grounds.
  • Candidates must hold a Personal Accident Insurance Cover for the internship duration.
  • Selection will be based strictly on merit and available vacancies per county.
  • Successful applicants:
    • Must not accept more than one internship offer.
    • May be posted to any JSS within their sub-county or county of application.
    • Will be required to teach various subjects under the Junior School curriculum.
