Procedure
To apply for an electricity connection in The Gambia, applicants must go through the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC).
Step-by-Step Process:
- Visit the NAWEC Head Office in Kanifing or any of its regional branches.
- Obtain and complete the electricity connection application form.
- Attach all required documents listed in the section below.
- Submit the completed form and supporting documents to the NAWEC office.
- Your property will undergo a site survey to determine feasibility and the distance to the nearest power pole.
- If the request meets the company’s service requirements, you will receive an invoice for connection fees.
- Pay the invoice within 30 days at the NAWEC Head Office in Kanifing.
- Note: If payment is not made within this period, you will be charged an additional D200.00 for re-invoicing.
- Upon payment, you will be issued a receipt and a stamped copy of the paid invoice.
- NAWEC will process and schedule the installation of your electricity connection after confirming payment.
Note: Only fully paid and verified applications will be processed for connection.

- The location must be within NAWEC’s service coverage area or close enough to existing distribution infrastructure.
Fees
- Application Fee: D200.00 (non-refundable).
- Connection Charges: Determined based on distance from the nearest electricity pole, meter type, and connection category (residential, commercial, or industrial).
- Late Payment: D200.00 penalty for re-invoicing after 30 days.
Validity
- Once issued, an electricity connection remains valid as long as the customer maintains an active service account with NAWEC and continues to pay monthly electricity bills.
Processing Time
- The entire process typically takes between four (4) to twelve (12) weeks, depending on the availability of materials and the complexity of the connection.
