Procedure
Step 1: Obtain the Application Form

Step 2: Complete Driving and Instruction Tests
Before filling the application form, the applicant must pass a driving and instructional test. This includes evaluation of:
- Driving skills and techniques
- Knowledge of traffic laws
- Personal driving discipline
- Ability to apply teaching methods
Step 3: Fill and Submit the Form
After passing the initial assessment, fill out the prescribed application form completely and attach all required documents.
Step 4: Pay the Prescribed Fees
Pay the applicable licence fee at an authorized bank. Attach the payment receipt to the application form.
Step 5: Submit to the Licensing Officer
Submit the filled form and payment slip to the Licensing Officer in your area for review.
Step 6: Final Evaluation and Approval
The Transport Licensing Board evaluates the applicant’s character, driving record, and test results. If approved, the applicant is issued a Driving Instructor Licence. Licences can be denied if the applicant’s record shows misconduct or traffic violations.
Step 7: Collect the Licence
If approved, collect the licence certificate within one working day from the submission office.
Step 8: Renewal
Renewals require resubmission of the application form, passing refresher assessments, and payment of renewal fees.

Validity
The driving instructor licence Uganda is valid for one year from the date of issue and expires on 31st December of each year.
Processing Time
Processing and approval of the licence take a maximum of six hours, provided all documents are complete and the applicant passes the required tests.
