Tanzania and China have committed to further strengthening their cooperation as Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan met with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on Saturday.
President Hassan expressed gratitude for China’s extensive support towards Tanzania’s development and highlighted China’s assistance to African countries under the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. She emphasized that China is a steadfast and reliable partner for Tanzania, sharing both triumphs and challenges. Hassan also underscored the strong, brotherly ties between Tanzania’s ruling party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), and the Communist Party of China (CPC).
Hassan reaffirmed Tanzania’s unwavering support for the one-China principle and its willingness to align its development plans with China. She highlighted Tanzania’s commitment to deepening pragmatic cooperation with China, revitalizing the Tanzania-Zambia Railway, and contributing to regional prosperity. Furthermore, she expressed Tanzania’s eagerness to strengthen inter-party exchanges, increase people-to-people connections, and promote economic growth that would benefit both nations.
The Tanzanian president also noted that Tanzania highly values China’s four global initiatives and is ready to collaborate with China in multilateral cooperation to promote a more just and equitable international governance system.
Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, emphasized that China and Tanzania share a strong bond of friendship and mutual destiny. He noted that this enduring friendship has withstood various international challenges, remaining one of the most valuable assets for both countries. Wang called for both sides to continue nurturing this friendship, adapting it to the current era’s needs.
Wang reiterated China’s commitment to its partnership with Tanzania, both between the two parties and the two countries. He expressed China’s readiness to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, aiming to strengthen governance exchanges, deepen practical cooperation, and foster people-to-people ties for the continued development of the China-Tanzania comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
The Chinese foreign minister further emphasized that the essence of China-Tanzania relations lies in mutual trust and support, with their cooperation yielding mutual benefits and positive outcomes. He thanked Tanzania for its steadfast adherence to the one-China principle and expressed China’s full support for Tanzania’s sovereignty, independence, and its path to development.
Looking forward, Wang said China and Tanzania should promote high-quality development in their bilateral cooperation. He highlighted the importance of the revitalized Tanzania-Zambia Railway, envisioning it as a regional development engine, a symbol of friendship, and a path to prosperity that will benefit not only Tanzania but other African nations.
Wang concluded by affirming China’s support for Tanzania’s greater involvement in regional and international affairs, and the two countries’ shared desire to work with other developing nations to promote global peace, stability, and progress.
