Capitec Bank is one of South Africa’s most trusted financial institutions, known for its simple, affordable, and digital-first approach to banking. One of its most useful tools is the Capitec app, which lets you manage debit orders conveniently from your smartphone. If a company or service provider is withdrawing money from your account without consent or if you no longer want a certain payment to continue — you can easily cancel a debit order using the Capitec app.
Understand What a Debit Order Is
A debit order is an agreement between you and a company allowing it to automatically deduct money from your account for regular payments such as insurance, loans, subscriptions, or memberships. Cancelling a debit order stops these automatic withdrawals.
There are two types of debit orders:
- Authorised debit orders: You agreed to them voluntarily.
- Unauthorised debit orders: Made without your consent, often due to error or fraud.
Knowing the type helps you decide whether to stop or dispute the debit order.
Open the Capitec App
To begin, open the Capitec Bank app on your phone. Ensure that it’s updated to the latest version for smooth performance. Log in securely using your PIN or biometric authentication. Once logged in, you’ll see your account dashboard with all your balances and transaction options.
Go to the “Transact” Menu
On the home screen, tap Transact. This menu allows you to perform key transactions such as payments, transfers, and airtime purchases — and also manage debit orders linked to your account.
Select “Debit Orders”
Scroll and tap Debit Orders to view all active debit instructions on your account. Each entry displays the company name, the deduction amount, and the usual date of debit.
Choose the Debit Order to Cancel
From the list, select the debit order you want to manage. Review its details carefully to ensure you are cancelling the correct one. Then, choose one of the following:
- Stop Debit Order: For authorised debit orders you no longer want.
- Dispute Debit Order: For unauthorised or suspicious transactions.
If you dispute a debit order, Capitec will investigate the matter on your behalf and may refund the funds depending on the outcome.
Confirm the Cancellation
Once you make your selection, follow the on-screen prompts to confirm. You may need to enter your Remote PIN for verification. After completing the process, you’ll receive a confirmation message showing that the debit order has been successfully cancelled or disputed.
Monitor Your Account
After cancelling, check your transaction history in the following weeks to ensure the debit order no longer goes off. If deductions continue, contact Capitec’s customer care immediately or visit your nearest Capitec branch for assistance.
Managing your debit orders through the Capitec app helps you stay in full control of your finances. Whether you’re cancelling an authorised agreement or disputing an unauthorised charge, the process is quick, simple, and secure — right from your smartphone.
