Applying for a Fishing License in Uganda is a mandatory process for anyone who intends to engage in recreational, subsistence, or commercial fishing. The procedure is managed by the Directorate of Fisheries Resources under the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF). To apply, individuals must visit the Directorate’s offices in Entebbe and obtain the official application form from an authorized officer.

Applicants must complete the form carefully and provide all necessary details, ensuring no section is left blank, as incomplete applications are not accepted. The completed form must be submitted together with all required documents, including proof of identification, residency, and fishing education certificates (if applicable). Additional documentation such as business permits may be needed for those applying for a commercial fishing license.

Once submitted, the application will be reviewed by the Directorate to verify accuracy and completeness. If everything is in order, the applicant will be asked to pay the prescribed fee as directed by the fisheries authority. In some cases, applicants may be required to provide additional information or clarification before approval. Once approved, the authority issues the Fishing License Uganda, granting legal permission to engage in fishing within specified waters. The process typically takes 15 to 30 days depending on the completeness of the application and departmental workload.

Instructions:

  • Only complete applications will be processed.
  • All information provided must be accurate and verifiable.
  • The license is non-transferable and must be displayed when fishing.

Need for the Document:
A Fishing License Uganda legally authorizes individuals to fish within the country’s jurisdiction. It regulates fishing activities, helps prevent overfishing, and ensures the sustainable use of aquatic resources.

Additional Information:
Fishing licenses also support government conservation efforts. Fees collected fund fisheries management, research, habitat restoration, and enforcement programs. Licensing helps gather essential data on fish stocks and fishing practices, promoting better policymaking and sustainable fisheries for future generations.
