Explore Sibiloi National Park: Entry Fees and Highlights for 2025

Sibiloi National Park is a remote and scientifically significant protected area located along the northeastern shores of Lake Turkana in northern Kenya. Established in 1973, the park spans approximately 1,570 square kilometers and is managed by the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS).

This national park plays a key role in conserving rare wildlife, diverse landscapes, and globally important archaeological sites. The terrain features semi-arid grasslands, volcanic rock formations, and fossil-rich deposits, making it one of the most unique parks in Kenya.

Why Visit Sibiloi National Park?

Sibiloi is internationally renowned for its paleontological importance. Within the park lies Koobi Fora, one of the most critical fossil discovery sites in the world. Groundbreaking finds, including fossils of early human ancestors such as Homo habilis and Homo erectus, have earned the area the title “Cradle of Mankind.” These discoveries have been instrumental in shaping our understanding of human evolution.

Beyond its archaeological value, the park is a sanctuary for wildlife. Lake Turkana serves as a key breeding ground for the Nile crocodile and a vital stopover for migratory waterfowl. Terrestrial wildlife includes zebras, Grant’s gazelles, lions, leopards, striped hyenas, cheetahs, greater kudu, Beisa oryx, and northern topi. The park also boasts more than 350 recorded bird species, both aquatic and terrestrial.

Sibiloi offers a rare opportunity to explore untamed natural beauty and interact with indigenous communities such as the Turkana, Gabra, and Dassanach—known for preserving rich traditional cultures.
