Operating a Timeshare business in Kenya requires official licensing by the Tourism Regulatory Authority (TRA). The TRA ensures that tourism enterprises meet industry standards and operate legally. This guide provides a step-by-step explanation of the online application process via the TRIMS Self-Service Portal, along with eligibility, required documents, fees, and license validity.

Step-by-Step Application Procedure

Step 1: Create an Account on the TRIMS Self-Service Portal

  1. Visit the TRA TRIMS Self-Service Portal.
  2. On the homepage, click the “Register” tab (top-right corner).
  3. Fill in all the required details on the Registration Page accurately.
  4. Submit your request. You will receive a confirmation notification.
  5. Once approved, login credentials will be emailed to your registered address.

Step 2: Register Your Business or Company

  1. Log in to your TRIMS portal account.
  2. Click on “Register an Entity”.
  3. Complete the Entity Registration Form and upload all required documents.
  4. Once completed, click “Next” to proceed to the Tourism License Application Form.
  5. Fill in the form, attach necessary documents, and click “Submit”.
  6. You will receive an acknowledgement notification once submitted.

Step 3: Application Verification by TRA

  • The TRA licensing department will review and verify your documents.
  • If all requirements are met, you will receive an approval email notification.

Step 4: Payment of License Fees

  • The system will generate an invoice and upload it to your account under “Invoice Management”.
  • Payments must be made through the official TRA payment channels (details below).
  • After making the payment, share proof of payment with TRA.
  • Once confirmed, a payment receipt will be issued via the portal.

Step 5: Premises Inspection

  • TRA officials will schedule an inspection of your premises.
  • The applicant (or a representative) must be present to provide requested documents and information.
  • Both parties must sign the inspection findings report.
  • If issues are found, corrective actions must be taken before the license is granted.
