Overview

Established in 1992 as Kiambu Tea Growers Sacco, Tai Sacco Society Limited has grown into one of Kenya’s leading deposit-taking Savings and Credit Co-operative Societies. Initially focused on Back Office Service Activity (BOSA), it expanded to include Front Office Service Activity (FOSA) in Githunguri Town in 1999. Rebranded in 2009 to Tai Sacco to reflect its diverse and expanding membership, the Sacco now boasts an asset base of KES 4.11 billion. Headquartered at Tai Plaza in Githunguri Town, Tai Sacco serves a wide range of members with tailored financial services.

Who Can Join?

Tai Sacco welcomes members from various sectors, including:

  • Tea farmers
  • Dairy farmers
  • Coffee farmers
  • Horticulture and floriculture farmers
  • Civil servants
  • Business owners
  • Transport industry professionals

Membership Requirements

Membership requirements differ based on the type of account being opened.

Individual Membership

  • Complete a membership application form, available on the Sacco’s website
  • Submit a copy of a Kenyan National ID or valid Kenyan passport
  • Provide a colored passport-size photograph
  • Include a copy of a KRA PIN certificate
  • Pay a one-time registration fee of KES 500
  • Contribute an initial share capital of KES 1,000

Joint Membership

  • Fill out a membership application form, downloadable from the Sacco’s website
  • Provide copies of Kenyan National IDs or valid Kenyan passports for both applicants
  • Submit colored passport-size photographs for both applicants
  • Include a copy of a KRA PIN certificate
  • Pay a registration fee of KES 500
  • Contribute an initial share capital of KES 1,000

Group Membership

  • Complete a group membership application form
  • Attach minutes from a group meeting resolving to join Tai Sacco
  • Submit a copy of the group’s constitution
  • Provide copies of IDs, passports, or photographs of authorized signatories
  • Include a copy of the group’s registration certificate
  • Submit a KRA PIN number (if applicable)
  • Pay a registration fee of KES 500
  • Contribute an initial share capital of KES 1,000

Note

Upon successful registration, three mandatory accounts are created for each member:

  • Savings Account: For general transactions
  • Share Capital: Represents member ownership
  • Non-Withdrawable Savings Account: Acts as a loan multiplier
