Netflix is significantly enhancing its social sharing capabilities with a powerful update to its “Moments” feature on mobile devices. Initially launched last year, the tool allowed users to bookmark a starting point in a movie or show. Now, the platform is granting subscribers unprecedented control, enabling them to capture and share precise, custom-length clips.

This strategic upgrade, which coincides with major new releases like the highly anticipated second season of Wednesday, is designed to fuel fan engagement and organic conversation around Netflix’s biggest titles.

How the Enhanced Moments Feature Works

The process is designed for simplicity and precision:

  1. While watching a title on the Netflix mobile app, tap the screen to bring up the player controls.
  2. Select the “Clip” or “Moments” option.
  3. Use the intuitive sliders to set the exact start and end points for your desired scene.
  4. Save the custom clip to your personal “My Netflix” library for easy access later.

These personalized clips can be shared directly to social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter or via messaging apps like WhatsApp. When a friend taps the shared link, the Netflix app opens immediately to the exact moment of the saved clip, creating a seamless viewing experience.

Why This Update Matters for Viewers and Netflix

The enhanced feature is a win-win for both audiences and the streaming giant.

  • For Viewers: It transforms passive watching into an active, participatory experience. Fans can now easily curate and share their favorite emotional moments, hilarious one-liners, or breathtaking action sequences, building a personalized highlight reel of the content they love.
  • For Netflix: It harnesses the power of user-generated content and word-of-mouth marketing. As fans share compelling clips, they effectively act as ambassadors, generating buzz and driving curiosity for Netflix originals. The feature provides valuable data on which scenes resonate most powerfully with global audiences.

Since its initial launch, the Moments feature has already demonstrated its viral potential. A standout example is the “Soda Pop” debut by the Saja Boys in KPop Demon Hunters, which quickly became one of the most-saved scenes across the entire platform.

This update marks a significant step in Netflix’s strategy to better integrate social sharing directly into its ecosystem, making it easier than ever for fans to connect over their shared love of film and television.
