The Maasai Mara National Reserve is one of Africa’s most iconic safari destinations, attracting thousands of visitors each year. Covering 1,510 km² in southwestern Kenya along the Great Rift Valley, the reserve is managed by the Narok County Government, unlike most Kenyan parks that are under the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS).
Renowned worldwide, the Maasai Mara is the stage for the Great Wildebeest Migration an awe-inspiring wildlife spectacle that takes place between July and October as millions of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles cross the Mara River from Tanzania’s Serengeti. The park is also home to the Big Five lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, and rhinoceroses alongside hundreds of bird species and other wildlife.
