How to Apply for an Ice Supply License in Uganda
1. Apply In-Person
Visit the Commissioner for Fisheries at the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries offices in Entebbe to express your intent to apply as an independent supplier of ice to the fishing industry. You can also visit their website for more information.
2. Meet Facility Requirements
Before approval, the Ministry ensures that the applicant meets all necessary requirements, including having suitable cooling and storage facilities in the local fishing area.
3. Complete the Application Form
The applicant must fill out the prescribed application form provided by the Fisheries Department under MAAIF. This form details the nature of ice production, capacity, and supply arrangements.
4. Attach Required Documents
Attach all relevant documents, including proof of premises, identity card, list of clients, and proof of payment for the required fees.
5. Pay the Prescribed Fees
The application must be accompanied by the official fee specified in the Second and Fifth Schedules of the Fisheries Regulations.
6. Compliance Verification
The Fisheries Department will inspect your facilities to verify that they comply with hygiene, safety, and operational standards. Where non-compliance is found, improvements must be made before a certificate is issued.
7. Submit Your Application
Once all requirements are met, submit your completed form and supporting documents to the Fisheries Department for processing.
8. Issuance of Certificate
If your application is approved, the Independent Supplier of Ice Certificate will be issued within two to seven days. The certificate is valid for one year, after which it must be renewed.
Failure to comply with the rules or maintain quality standards may result in the suspension or cancellation of the license.
