How to Sambaza Safaricom Data Bundles

Safaricom’s Sambaza Internet service makes it simple for PrePay and individual PostPay subscribers in Kenya to transfer small amounts of data to other active Safaricom users. This feature helps friends or family members stay connected when running low on data. Corporate lines and roaming subscribers do not qualify as senders, though PostPay individuals can both send and receive bundles.

Key Rules & Limits

• You must retain at least 5MB on your line after sharing.
• A minimum of 5MB and a maximum of 10MB can be sent per transaction.
• The daily limit is 20MB total shared data across all transfers.
• Promotional or bonus data (including night shift bundles) cannot be shared.
• Once sent, data transfers cannot be reversed.
• If the recipient already has data, the validity date with the longer expiry applies.

Methods to Share Safaricom Data

1. USSD Code *456# or *100#

• Dial *456#.
• Choose Okoa/Sambaza/Please Call Me → select Sambaza Bundles.
• Enter the number of MBs to share (5–10MB).
• Provide the recipient’s Safaricom number and select bundle type (with or without expiry).
• Confirm and await an SMS notification.
  Alternatively, you can dial *100#, navigate to Products & Services, then follow prompts to reach the Sambaza data menu.

2. SMS Method

• Open your messaging app and type: [Amount]*[RecipientNumber] (e.g., 10*0722000000).
• Send this text to 450.
• You and the recipient will both receive SMS confirmations.

3. MySafaricom App

• Download the MySafaricom App via Google Play or App Store.
• Log in using your Safaricom number and OTP.
• Navigate to Account → Sambaza → Sambaza Data.
• Enter recipient’s number, specify the data amount (5–10MB), select expiry type, and confirm.
• A confirmation message appears upon successful transfer.
