To become a registered veterinary medicine student in Uganda, you need to complete the Veterinary Medicine Student Indexing process through the Uganda Veterinary Board (UVB). This indexing allows students to be recognized and tracked throughout their training, ensuring they meet the necessary requirements for their future veterinary careers.
In-Person Application Procedure
- Contact the Uganda Veterinary Board (UVB)
- Before starting the application, visit the Uganda Veterinary Board (UVB) to obtain the application form. You can also visit their website.
- Fill Out the Application Form
- Obtain the application form from your institution or the UVB office. Complete the form with all the necessary details, including:
- Personal information
- Training institution details
- Details of your admission, including the program and courses

- Along with the application form, attach the following documents:
- Passport-sized photograph
- National ID or Passport copy
- Certified UACE Examination Results Slip
- Secondary School Leaving Certificate

- Submit the completed form and documents to the dean of students at your institution, who will forward it to the UVB on your behalf.
- Submit Summary of Applicants
- The institution will summarize all applicant details and submit the summary to the UVB within 30 days from the date of admission.
- Approval and Index Number Issuance
- After reviewing the application, the UVB will assign an index number to the student and send it to the institution. The index number is essential for tracking your progress and eligibility to sit for the licensing examination.
- Pick Up Your Index Number
- Once the UVB has processed your application, you can pick up your index number from the dean’s office at your institution.
