Google may soon introduce a new operating system to rival Windows and macOS. The tech giant is reportedly developing an Android-based OS under the working title “Aluminium OS.” According to a job listing spotted by The Verge, Google is looking for a Senior Product Manager to help build this new system, which will integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) at its core.

Google’s experience with Android—the world’s dominant smartphone operating system—and ChromeOS, which powers lightweight laptops, suggests that Aluminium OS could blend the best aspects of these products. The name “Aluminium” hints at a connection to Chromium, the open-source version of Chrome, which could influence the design and functionality of the new OS.

The Aluminium OS is expected to support a wide range of devices, from budget-friendly options to mid-market and premium hardware, bringing Google’s AI and mobile-first approach to desktops and laptops. While the details remain scarce, this new operating system could leverage Google’s strengths in AI to provide a fresh user experience, but it faces tough competition from established desktop giants like Microsoft and Apple.

At this point, it’s too early to predict when Google will officially announce more about Aluminium OS, but it marks an exciting step for the company as it enters the desktop OS market. If Google’s track record with Android and ChromeOS is any indication, this move could potentially reshape the desktop landscape, though it will likely take significant effort to overcome the dominance of Windows and macOS.

For now, all eyes are on Google, eagerly awaiting further updates on this ambitious project.
