BYD strengthens buyer confidence by extending its Blade battery warranty to 155,000 miles across electric and plug-in hybrid models.
BYD has significantly strengthened its aftersales proposition by extending the warranty on its innovative Blade battery to 155,000 miles. The new limit represents a major jump from the previous 93,000-mile cap and applies not only to new vehicles, but also to BYD models already on the road.
The enhanced warranty covers both fully electric vehicles and BYD’s “Super Hybrid” plug-in hybrid models, reinforcing the company’s focus on long-term durability and ownership reassurance. Under the revised terms, if a battery’s state of health falls below 70 percent within the first 155,000 miles, BYD will repair or replace it at no cost to the customer.
This move places BYD among the most generous manufacturers in the electric vehicle market when it comes to battery protection.
How the extended warranty fits into BYD’s coverage
The upgraded battery warranty complements BYD’s existing ownership package, which includes a six-year or 93,000-mile new car warranty and a 12-year, unlimited-mileage anti-rust warranty. Together, these policies are designed to address some of the most common concerns among EV buyers, particularly around battery longevity and replacement costs.
Importantly, the new battery mileage limit is being applied retrospectively. Existing BYD owners will automatically benefit from the improved coverage, adding immediate value to vehicles already registered.
What makes the Blade battery different
At the heart of the warranty upgrade is BYD’s Blade battery technology. The Blade battery uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry, which is widely regarded as safer and more robust than traditional lithium-ion batteries. Unlike nickel- and cobalt-based alternatives, LFP batteries are also more sustainable and less dependent on scarce materials.
BYD says the Blade battery has been proven to exceed 3,000 charge and discharge cycles. This equates to a potential service life of close to 750,000 miles, far beyond the typical lifespan of most vehicles.
The Blade battery’s physical design also offers packaging advantages. Its slim structure takes up significantly less space than many rival battery packs, allowing engineers to maximise cabin and luggage room without compromising structural rigidity.
UK models using Blade battery technology
Several BYD models currently sold in the UK are equipped with Blade battery technology. These include the Dolphin Surf, Dolphin, Seal, Atto 2, Atto 3, Seal U and Sealion 7. The extended warranty therefore applies across much of BYD’s existing UK lineup.
As the brand continues to expand its presence in Britain, battery durability is expected to remain a central pillar of its positioning, particularly as competition in the mid-priced EV segment intensifies.
BYD’s growing global momentum
Globally, BYD reached a major milestone in 2025 by outselling Tesla for the first time. The achievement underlines the company’s rapid growth and aggressive new-model strategy.
The UK market is set to see further expansion from BYD in 2026, with several new vehicles planned. Among them is the upcoming BYD Sealion 5 plug-in hybrid, priced from £29,995, which will also benefit from the newly extended 155,000-mile battery warranty.
What it means for EV buyers
Battery longevity remains one of the biggest concerns for electric and plug-in hybrid buyers. By dramatically extending its battery warranty and applying it retroactively, BYD is sending a clear signal about its confidence in Blade battery technology.
For consumers, the move reduces long-term ownership risk and strengthens BYD’s value proposition at a time when the EV market is becoming increasingly crowded. As warranties become a key differentiator, BYD’s latest decision could put pressure on rivals to match its commitment to durability and customer reassurance.
