To enhance the skills of workers in Uganda, employers must apply for Industrial Training Certification for their employees through the Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT) under the Ministry of Education and Sports. In-Person Application Procedure

  1. Submit Application to the Directorate of Industrial Training
    • Employers should submit their applications to the Director of Industrial Training within 30 days after the commencement of the training program.
  2. Complete the Application Form
    • Obtain the application form from the Directorate of Industrial Training or their website.
    • Fill in the required details, including the type of training, the name of the employer, the nominee’s particulars (name, age, qualifications), and course details.
  3. Attach Required Documents
    • Ensure that the following documents are attached to the application:
      • National ID or passport copy of the nominated employee
      • Course content and timetable
      • Course proposal or admission letter from the training provider
      • Trainer’s identity
  4. Submit the Application
    • Submit the completed application along with the necessary attachments to the Directorate of Industrial Training through your institution.
    • Applications for local training must be submitted at least 7 days before the start of the course, and 14 days for overseas training.
  5. Processing of Application
    • Once the application is received, the Director of Industrial Training will review it and notify you about the status. If approved, the training details will be processed, and you will receive a confirmation.
  6. Appeals
    • If the application is rejected, employers may appeal to the Director General by providing reasonable grounds.

  • Copy of the course proposal or admission letter from the training provider
  • Trainer’s identity verification

Eligibility

  • Employers registered as UGAPRIVI Training Levy contributors and up-to-date with their monthly levy contributions are eligible to apply.
  • Employees from East African member states working in Uganda are eligible for training under the UGAPRIVI Training Levy.
  • Only employees on whom the UGAPRIVI Training Levy is remitted shall benefit from the certification process.

Fees

  • Application Fee: Free of charge.
  • Training Fees: These are typically paid directly to the training provider.

Processing Time

  • The maximum processing time for the industrial training application is 1 week.

Validity

  • The Industrial Training Certificate is valid for 2 years after the employee completes the training.
