Step-by-Step Process to Amend an NGO Constitution:

  1. Consult the Board of Directors:
The first step is for the Board of Directors of your NGO to hold a meeting to discuss and decide on the proposed amendments to the constitution. This meeting should be documented with minutes that include the reasons for the amendments.
  2. Prepare the Formal Application:
Once the amendments have been discussed, the Board must prepare a formal application addressed to the Executive Director of the Non-Governmental Organizations Co-ordination Board. The application must be signed by the five registered officials of the organization.
  3. Submit the Required Documents:
Submit the following documents to the NGO Co-ordination Board:
    • A formal application addressed to the Executive Director
    • Minutes of the meeting proposing the amendments, submitted within 14 days from the meeting date, explaining the reasons for the changes
    • A new copy of the constitution, with the amended sections highlighted
  4. Pay the Processing Fee:
A processing fee of GHS 4,000 is required for the application. Submit the receipt of the payment along with your documents.
  5. Await Verification and Approval:
The NGO Co-ordination Board will review the application and documents. If all is in order, the amendments will be approved and acknowledged within two days. The amendments will be officially effected within 90 days from submission.

Required Documents:

  • Formal application addressed to the Executive Director, signed by five registered officials
  • Minutes of the meeting authorizing the amendments, with reasons for the changes
  • A copy of the amended constitution, with changes highlighted

Eligibility:

  • The NGO must be registered in Ghana.
  • The Board of Directors should have conducted a meeting to propose the amendments.

Fees:

  • A processing fee of GHS 4,000 is charged, which covers the administrative costs of the amendment application.

Processing Time:

  • The application will be reviewed and acknowledged by the NGO Co-ordination Board within two days.
  • The amendments will be formally approved and implemented within 90 days.

Other Uses of the Amended Constitution:
