Located in the southeastern part of Mombasa Island, Kibokoni is a historic area mainly populated by Asian and Arab communities. This estate is home to the iconic Fort Jesus.
5. Ganjoni
A middle-class neighborhood on Mombasa Island, hosting one of Africa’s major dry docks and serving residential and industrial needs.
6. Tudor
A middle-income district near Mombasa’s Central Business District and home to the Technical University of Mombasa. Recognized for its safety and proximity to key city services.
7. Likoni
Connected to Mombasa Island by ferry, Likoni is a lower-middle-class area with predominantly single-room stone housing. It struggles with insecurity, largely linked to unemployment among youth.
8. Magongo
Sitting along the Mombasa–Nairobi Highway, Magongo is a low-income area lacking in infrastructure and sanitation. The region faces safety issues linked to youth unemployment and substance abuse.
9. Mikindani
Located in Jomvu Constituency along the highway, Mikindani is a suburban, industrial support community. It offers affordable housing suited for manufacturing and airport staff.
10. Changamwe
An industrial hub and middle-income area, it includes the Kenya Oil Refinery, Kipevu Power Station, and is the gateway to Moi International Airport.
11. Port Reitz
Northwest of Mombasa Island, this estate is named after a historical naval commander. It houses Moi International Airport and serves both residential and logistics functions.
12. Shanzu
Located on the Mombasa–Malindi highway, Shanzu is a coastal low-income township facing security concerns related to youth crime and substance abuse.
13. Kisauni
A low-income area with notable issues around drug abuse and crime among its youth population.
