Your email address is a vital part of your Facebook account because it’s used for login, password recovery, and receiving notifications. If you’ve switched to a new email or no longer use the one linked to your profile, it’s essential to update it. Keeping your email current helps maintain account security and accessibility. Here’s a simple step-by-step guide on how to change email address on Facebook.
Log In to Your Facebook Account
Open Facebook on your computer browser or mobile app. Enter your current email or phone number and password to log in. Once logged in, you can manage your account preferences from the main menu.
Go to Settings and Privacy
On the Facebook website, click the downward arrow in the top right corner and select Settings & Privacy, then click Settings.
If you’re using the Facebook app, tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines), scroll down, and tap Settings & Privacy, followed by Settings.
Open Personal Information
In the settings menu, tap or click Personal Information. This section contains details such as your name, phone number, and email address. Select Contact Info to view your current email linked to your account.
Add a New Email Address
You’ll first need to add a new email before removing the old one. Tap Add Email Address and enter your new address. Make sure it’s a valid and accessible email, as Facebook will send a confirmation message to verify ownership.
After entering your email, click Add or Continue to proceed.
Confirm Your New Email
Check your email inbox for a message from Facebook. Open the email and click the confirmation link to verify your new address. Once confirmed, your new email will be listed under your contact options on Facebook.
Set the New Email as Primary
Return to the Contact Info section. Select your newly added email and click Make Primary. This makes it your main login and recovery email, allowing you to use it for password resets and account access.
Remove the Old Email (Optional)
If you no longer use your previous email, you can remove it for better security. Simply click Remove next to the old email and confirm your choice. Facebook will then delete it from your contact list.
Save and Log Out
Click Save Changes to complete the process. Log out and then log back in using your new email to ensure everything works properly.
By following these steps, you can easily change email address on Facebook, keeping your account updated and secure. Regularly reviewing your contact information also ensures that you can recover your account quickly if you ever lose access.
