The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has officially opened its 2025 recruitment campaign, inviting qualified Kenyan citizens to apply for diverse opportunities across its military departments. Available positions include General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets, Specialist Officers, General Duty Recruits, Tradesmen and Women, and Defence Forces Constables.
According to the Ministry of Defence, applications for select categories are open until October 12, 2025, with physical recruitment exercises set to follow soon after.

Application Procedure
Online Applications (Mandatory):
Applicants for GSO Cadets, Specialist Officers, and Tradesmen/Women must apply online through the official KDF recruitment portal: https://recruit.mod.go.ke.
- Deadline: October 12, 2025
- Shortlisting: October 21–24, 2025 (announced in national newspapers)
- Note: Only online submissions will be considered for these categories.
Recruitment for General Duty Recruits and Defence Forces Constables will be conducted in person at designated centers. The detailed schedule will be shared separately by the Kenya Army, Kenya Navy, and Kenya Air Force.

Citizenship and Documentation
- Must be a Kenyan citizen with a valid National ID.
- Present original documents and four copies of:

Age Requirements
- 18–26 years: GSO Cadets (Regular & Graduate), General Duty Recruits
- Up to 30 years: Specialist Officers, Tradesmen/Women
- Up to 39 years: Chaplains/Imams
- Constables:
- Retired KDF: 30–55 years
- Retired NYS: 35–45 years
- Applicants must not have a criminal record.
Physical Standards
- Minimum Height:
- Men: 1.60m (5’3″)
- Women: 1.52m (5’0″)
- Minimum Weight:
- Men: 54.55kg (120 lb)
- Women: 50.00kg (110 lb)
- BMI: Must be below 30.
- Female candidates must not be pregnant during recruitment or training and must meet KDF medical standards.
Tip: Begin physical fitness training early to meet KDF’s demanding requirements. Refer to official KDF guidelines or consult a fitness coach for targeted preparation.
Professional Experience
- Specialist Officers and Tradesmen/Women must have at least two years’ experience after registering with their statutory body.
- Selected applicants will undergo verification at KDF training institutions.
