Overview

Established in 1976, Chuna Sacco is a leading deposit-taking Savings and Credit Co-operative Society registered with the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA). Operating with an open membership bond, Chuna Sacco is dedicated to mobilizing savings and delivering affordable financial services to enhance members’ socio-economic well-being. With an asset base of KES 2.01 billion, the Sacco leverages advanced technology for full automation, offering a range of tailored Back Office Service Activity (BOSA) and Front Office Service Activity (FOSA) products. Its headquarters are located on Harry Thuku Road at the University of Nairobi’s Main Campus, Engineering Section.

Who Can Join?

Chuna Sacco welcomes individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Current or former employees of the University of Nairobi or Chuna Sacco
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Of good character
  • Residing or owning land within the Sacco’s operational area
  • Not a member of another Sacco

This inclusive policy ensures opportunities for those connected to the University of Nairobi community.

Membership Requirements

To become a member of Chuna Sacco, applicants must:

  • Complete a membership application form
  • Gain approval by a majority vote of the management committee
  • Pay a one-time entrance fee of KES 500
  • Acquire a passbook
  • Contribute a minimum of KES 2,000 monthly toward shares for at least six months to qualify for full membership rights and privileges
  • Nominate a beneficiary in writing, signed in the presence of two witnesses, to receive shares, deposits, or other interests upon the member’s passing
