Guide to Obtaining a Courier Service License in Kenya
The Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK) regulates all courier services in the country. As of 2025, any business offering courier services must obtain a valid license from CAK before commencing operations. This guide outlines the complete application process and requirements.
License Requirements
To qualify for a courier service license, applicants must provide:

- Certified copy of Certificate of Incorporation
- CR12 form (not older than 2 months) showing directors and shareholders

- Foreign-owned companies must show 30% Kenyan shareholding
- Certified ID copies (both sides on one A4 page) or passports for all directors
- Tax Compliance
- Valid KRA PIN certificate
- Current Tax Compliance Certificate
- Business Plan
- Detailed 3-year plan covering:

- Target markets
- Operational network
- Expansion strategy
- Detailed 3-year plan covering:
- Constitutional Documents
- Memorandum and Articles of Association (companies)
- NGO constitution or cooperative bylaws (where applicable)

Application Process
