How to Register a Birth at the Consulate General of Gambia in Sweden

To register a birth at the Consulate General of Gambia in Sweden, you need to complete the application form and submit it alongside the necessary documents. The registration process is straightforward and involves sending your application and documents to the following address:

Once your application is processed, you will receive one certified copy of the birth certificate free of charge. The original documents will be returned to you.

Required Documents for Birth Registration:

  1. Swedish Population Register Extract (Personbevis):
    This extract should include the child’s full name, date of birth, and information on both parents, such as their names, dates, and places of birth.
  2. Hospital Certificate or Confirmation Letter:
    A document from the hospital or a letter confirming the child’s birth details, including the mother’s name and the time and place of birth.
  3. Marriage Certificate (if applicable):
    If the parents are married, a copy of their marriage certificate is required.
  4. Declaration of Paternity (if parents are unmarried):
    If the parents are not married, both the mother and father must complete a “Declaration of Paternity” form, which must be witnessed by a Consul or Notary Public. The Consulate provides these forms.
  5. Gambian Passports:
    A copy of the Gambian passports of both parents must be submitted.

Eligibility for Birth Registration:

  • Any Gambian parent living in Sweden who wishes to register the birth of their child at the Consulate General of Gambia.

Fees:

  • No fees are required for birth registration.

Validity:

  • The birth certificate will remain valid indefinitely as a permanent record of the child’s birth.

  • The official Registration of Birth application form, which can be obtained from the Consulate.

Processing Time:

  • Typically, processing the birth registration takes about 2-4 weeks. You will be informed once your birth certificate is ready for collection or mailing.

  1. Complete the birth registration application form.
  2. Gather all the required documents as listed above.
  3. Submit the completed form along with the documents to the Consulate General of Gambia in Malmo, Sweden.
  4. Wait for the Consulate’s confirmation and the birth certificate.
