If you intend to operate a veterinary clinical center, hospital, or ambulatory service in Kenya, you are required by law to seek approval and licensing from the Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB) before commencing operations. This process ensures that veterinary services meet the set professional standards and safeguard animal welfare across the country.

Application Procedure

Step 1: Obtain the Application Form

  • Visit the Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB) Head Office to request the Application for Approval of a Veterinary Clinical Centre/Hospital/Ambulatory Facility (Form 34A).
  • Alternatively, you can download the form directly from the official KVB website.

Step 2: Prepare the Required Documents

Before submitting your application, ensure you have the following documents:

  1. Registration certificate as a veterinary surgeon.
  2. Academic and professional qualification certificates.
  3. Registration certificate of the veterinary clinical center, hospital, or ambulatory facility.
  4. Proof of payment for the prescribed application fees.
  5. Registration document from a recognized professional association of veterinary surgeons.

Step 3: Submit the Application

  • Fill in the application form completely and accurately.
  • Attach all required supporting documents.
  • Submit the completed form and documents to the KVB office.

Step 4: Inspection

  • Once your application is received, the KVB will schedule an inspection of your facility within one working day.
  • You must pay the inspection fees in advance and provide proof of payment.

Step 5: Licensing

  • If your facility meets the required standards, the Board will instruct you to pay the licensing fees.
  • After payment, you will be issued a license in Form 34B, which is valid for one year from the date of issue.
  • Please note: The Board reserves the right to revoke the license if there is a breach of regulations.

Fees Structure

  • Inspection Fees:
    • Clinical Center: Ksh 50,000 (one-time)
    • Veterinary Hospital: Ksh 100,000 (one-time)
    • Ambulatory Facility: Ksh 5,000 (annual)
  • License Fees (Annual):
    • Clinical Center: Ksh 15,000
    • Veterinary Hospital: Ksh 30,000
    • Ambulatory Facility: Ksh 5,000

Payment Instructions:
Fees should be deposited to Cooperative Bank, Westlands Branch, Account No: 01141151721300.
Ensure that your name is clearly indicated on the payment slip, which must then be presented to the KVB office.


Processing Time

  • Inspection: Within 1 day of application submission.
  • Licensing: Within 1 day of a successful inspection.

Eligibility

The approval process is open to institutions or individuals who wish to establish or operate veterinary clinical centers, hospitals, or ambulatory facilities in Kenya.
