Screen sharing on Zoom allows participants to view what’s on your device in real time, making it ideal for presentations, training sessions, product demos, and team collaborations. Done right, it keeps meetings engaging and avoids awkward pauses or delays. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you share your screen like a pro.
1. Open or Join a Zoom Meeting
Launch the Zoom application on your computer or mobile device and sign in to your account. You can either host a new meeting or join an existing one. For the best experience, ensure you have a stable internet connection to prevent interruptions.
2. Locate the Share Screen Button
Once inside the meeting, find the “Share Screen” button.
- On a computer: It’s usually at the bottom center of the Zoom toolbar.
- On mobile devices: Tap the screen to reveal the menu, then select “Share”.
3. Choose What to Share
After clicking the button, Zoom will display sharing options. You can choose to share:
- Your entire desktop
- A specific application window
- A browser tab
Select the option that contains the content you want participants to see.
4. Enable Sound if Necessary
If your content includes audio or video, tick the “Share sound” box before starting. This ensures participants hear any media played from your device.
5. Start the Screen Share
Click “Share” to begin. Your chosen screen or window will now be visible to everyone in the meeting, and you can still speak, answer questions, or navigate through your content.
6. Use the Screen Share Toolbar
While sharing, a small toolbar will appear, allowing you to:
- Pause sharing
- Use the annotation tool to highlight or draw on your screen for emphasis
- Stop sharing when you’re done
7. Stop Sharing When Finished
Once you’ve completed your presentation, click the red “Stop Share” button. This will return the meeting view to normal and prevent further sharing.
Pro Tip: Before sharing, close any unrelated tabs, apps, or notifications to maintain privacy and keep the audience focused on your presentation.
