Overview

Founded in 1971 and registered under the Co-operative Societies Act (Cap 490) of Kenya, Hazina SACCO is a regulated savings and credit cooperative that provides financial empowerment through savings and affordable credit solutions. The SACCO operates under the oversight of the SACCO Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) and offers both Back Office Services Activity (BOSA) and Front Office Savings Activity (FOSA) to meet a wide range of member needs.

Who Can Join Hazina SACCO?

Membership is open to individuals and groups from diverse sectors across the country. Eligible members include:

  • Civil servants and public service employees
  • Staff from various ministries, parastatals, and government agencies
  • Employees of Hazina SACCO
  • Workers in both national and county governments
  • Individuals employed in the private sector
  • Registered groups such as Chamas and cooperatives
  • Independent individuals interested in savings and credit services

Individual Membership Requirements

Individuals wishing to join Hazina SACCO must complete a membership application form, available on the SACCO’s official website. Along with the form, applicants should submit the following:

  • A copy of their National ID
  • One passport-size photograph
  • A recent payslip (for members contributing via payroll check-off)
  • A completed nominee form
  • Entrance fee of Ksh 1,000
  • A minimum monthly contribution of Ksh 1,000 or 5% of their basic salary, whichever is higher
  • A minimum share capital investment, payable within the first 12 months of joining (Ksh 16,000 as of December 31, 2021)
  • An annual share capital contribution of Ksh 1,000 thereafter
  • A welfare fund contribution of Ksh 200 per month. This fund provides financial support in the event of the death of a member, their spouse, two children per year, or their biological parents

Group Membership Requirements

Groups such as Chamas or cooperatives are also eligible for membership. To qualify, a group must meet the following:

  • Be officially registered with the Registrar of Societies
  • Possess a valid registration certificate with a current official stamp
  • Ensure all group members are Kenyan citizens aged 18 or older

When applying, groups must submit the following documentation:

  • A filled membership application form
  • Entrance fee of Ksh 3,000
  • A minimum monthly savings deposit of Ksh 5,000
  • Minutes of a group meeting authorizing officials to join Hazina SACCO, signed by all members
  • The group’s constitution
  • Valid registration certificate
  • National ID copies for all officials and members
  • Passport photos of group officials
  • KRA PIN certificates for all officials
  • Home address details for each member
  • A list of four account signatories (three officials and one ordinary member)
