Harambee Sacco: A Legacy of Financial Empowerment Since 1970

Founded in 1970 by employees of the Office of the President, Harambee Sacco began as a simple merry-go-round initiative to cultivate savings and provide short-term loans. Today, it stands among Kenya’s largest deposit-taking Saccos with an impressive KSh 37.01 billion asset base, offering comprehensive financial solutions to diverse members.

Membership Eligibility

Harambee Sacco welcomes Kenyan citizens across various categories:

1. Check-Off Members

  • Government employees
  • Staff of reputable institutions
  • Harambee Sacco employees

2. Non Check-Off Members

  • Retired members continuing membership (“Wafanisi”)
  • Formally employed individuals
  • Diaspora members with legal income
  • Spouses/children of existing members (with regular income)

3. Groups & Organizations

  • Registered chamas, CBOs, and NGOs

4. Business Entities

  • Sole proprietorships
  • Partnerships
  • Registered companies

Membership Requirements

Prospective members must:

  1. Complete application form (available online or at FOSA branches)
  2. Submit supporting documents:
    • National ID copy
    • Passport photo
    • KRA PIN certificate
  3. Pay membership fees:
    • KSh 1,000 registration fee
    • KSh 30,000 share capital (installments allowed)
    • KSh 300 monthly sink fund contribution

Note: Digital share certificates issued upon full share payment.
